David Haskell
"My paintings are the result of experiences
in the field that have inspired my sense of awe
and appreciation for the incredible beauty of
the Western landscape. I am particularly drawn
to moving water and the power of vast open
spaces. I am perhaps best known for my paintings
of the Grand Canyon. Whether painting on site or
later in the studio, I attempt to capture the
quality of light and mood that inspired me at
the time I witnessed the scene."
Although David worked his way
through college as an illustrator, he chose a
career with the National Park Service and
painted occasionally on commission until he
retired from the NPS in 1999. Since then, he has
been painting full time, frequently leads plein
air workshops, and participates in plein air
expeditions. He is the founder of the Sedona
Plein Air Painters and current president of the
Arizona Plein Air Painters. |
