Janyse Florek "I love working with natural materials such as wood and stone … their vibration, unpredictability, and aliveness communicate to my creative nature." Janyse began working with rock art in 1992 after being inspired by her artist sister-in-law. "I use Arizona Sandstone mined from quarries in Northern Arizona. I look for a rock with a dark patina on the surface and a light coloring beneath to provide a contrast that shows off the design. Sandblasting is the method I use for etching. The unpredictability of colors and textures that present themselves is always exciting for me to see!"
