Shirley Eichten
Albrecht
Although she has been an innovative basket maker
since 1992, after moving to Sedona, Shirley
began creating new basket designs, blending Raku
with basketweaving to create unique sculptures
as well as using antlers and gourds to create
stunning wall hangings and sculptures.
Recognition of her art has won her many awards.
Recent national ones include having one of her
gourd sculptures named "Best Woven" at the
WovenWorks 08 show at the Fitton Center for
Creative Arts in Hamilton, Ohio and, in August
2008 she was juried into the prestigious
National Fiber Arts Show at the Escondido Arts
Partnership, Escondido, CA.
After graduating
with an art and music degree from St. Cloud
State University, MN, she taught in Minnesota,
then Dallas, TX, during which time she developed
a freelance art business. After moving to St.
Louis, MO, she began designing and creating
baskets. She has taught numerous basketweaving
classes and has created and authored several
basket patterns. Shirley is a co-founder of the
Basketweaving Guild in Sedona, belongs to many
other basketry organizations, and is the
Director of the Sedona Arts Center Gallery. |
