SEDONA PLEIN AIR FESTIVAL is a celebration of Sedona's extraordinary beauty as seen through the eyes of 30 of the finest plein air painters in the country. The eight-day festival features artists painting - on the streets, trailheads, creeks and hillsides - capturing on canvas the beauty of Sedonaís Red Rock Country. "En plein air," French for "in the open air," is a spontaneous art form in which artists respond to the immediacy of the moment, painting scenes that reflect the excitement of ever-changing light, colors and shadows. Plein-air painters work in all kinds of weather and paintings are usually completed in a matter of hours. Sedona in late October with the beautiful foliage and crisp autumn air is a plein-air painterís paradise.
The Sedona Arts Center would like to thank the 30 award-winning professional artists who came from around the country for their participation in the 5th Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival. (October 24 - November 1, 2009)
The 6th Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival is scheduled for Oct 23 - 30, 2010

A Big THANK YOU to all potters for their contribution in making 'Loving Bowls' a great success and a community event with over 600 attending! |

A unique and philanthropic event, LOVING BOWLS, returns to Sedona in December 2009. Twelve years ago, Ed Oshier, at the suggestion of his wife, Mary Jane, proposed an event that would benefit the Sedona Adult Community Center's "Meals on Wheels" programs. The result was the founding of a wonderfully successful event, LOVING BOWLS, patterned after a national program called "Empty Bowls."
Ed Oshier and Denise Lapp, Executive Director of the Community Center, engaged twenty potters to donate handmade ceramic bowls to be sold at what they hoped would become an annual two-day event. The 1st Annual Loving Bowls in 1997 was a huge success with 350 pieces donated by local artists. Every bowl was sold in two days, earning over $4000. The event continued each year until Denise Lapp resigned her position with the Community Center. Without a champion at the helm, the event disappeared.
Sedona Arts Center resurrected Loving Bowls in 2009. It was spearheaded by Dennis Ott and the Center's Ceramics Studio. It was a great success! Thanks to a generous philanthropic angel and wonderful support from the community, the event generated over $11,000. The benefactors were: the Adult Community Center's "Meal on Wheels" program, the Old Town Mission of Cottonwood, and the Sedona Arts Center's Scholarship Fund. | |
